Instructions

- In a saucepan, whisk together milk, sugar, cornstarch, egg yolks, and vanilla over medium heat until thickened; let cool slightly.
- In a separate bowl, beat heavy cream until soft peaks form; optionally add powdered sugar.
- Assemble by layering custard between pieces of pastry and topping with whipped cream before serving.
