- 3 organic oranges
- 2 cups water
- 1 cup sugar (plus more for coating)
- 1 vanilla bean (optional)
- Chocolate for dipping (optional)
Instructions
- Wash the oranges thoroughly with a vegetable brush.
- Slice off the ends of each orange and score lengthwise down to the pith.
- Carefully remove and slice the peel into strips about 1/4-inch wide.
- Boil the orange peels in water, drain, and repeat once more.
- In a pot, combine boiled peels with water, sugar, and optional vanilla bean; boil then simmer uncovered for 30-35 minutes until translucent.
- Let peels cool in syrup briefly before transferring to a drying rack.
- Dry for at least 8 hours; coat in sugar or dip in melted chocolate before serving.
