- 12 Cipollini onions
- 1 cup buttermilk (or whole milk mixed with vinegar)
- 1 cup all-purpose flour
- 1 tablespoon spice mix (garlic powder, onion powder, smoked paprika, dry mustard, salt, black pepper)
- 4 cups vegetable or canola oil (for frying)
Instructions
- Peel and trim the Cipollini onions, keeping them intact.
- In a mixing bowl, whisk together the buttermilk, flour, and spice mix until smooth.
- Heat oil in a heavy-bottomed pot to about 350°F (175°C).
- Dip each onion in the batter using a slotted spoon and fry in batches for 3-4 minutes until golden brown.
- Drain on paper towels and serve hot with your favorite ranch dip.
